West Fairlee, VT – Ann S. Broadbent, 80, of West Fairlee, VT passed away in her sleep on February 26th, 2026, after a long battle with dementia at Silverbrook in Charlestown, NH.
Ann was born at Dartmouth Hitchcock, formerly known as Mary Hitchcock in Hanover, NH on September 7th, 1945. Ann attended Thetford Academy and later in life went on to get her associate’s degree in accounting. She had many jobs in her life, including working at the Hanover Inn where she met her husband, Doug. One of her greatest accomplishments was creating and working alongside Doug in the family business, Doug’s Home Bakery. Her role in the bakery included frying and packaging all the products, delivering them to local stores, and handling the accounting for both the business and their home. One of her favorite things was having her grandchildren help in the bakery during summer vacations and even tagging along on the deliveries. The bakery was best known for their famous sweet rolls and old-fashioned donuts. Apart from baking, Ann enjoyed the outdoors and especially gardening. Her flower beds and local garden filled with fresh fruits and vegetables were something she took pride in and enjoyed maintaining. On rainy days, you’d often find her curled up with a good book in her hand. She will be greatly missed.
Ann is predeceased by her husband, Douglas A. Broadbent who passed away on March 15th, 2025, her sister, Geraldine Gendron, and her brother Floyd Mattoon, Jr.
Ann is survived by her daughters Kimberly White, Stacy Seace (husband James), her brother Carroll Mattoon (wife Terry), her sister-in-law, Barbara Feely, grandchildren, Zachary, Cassandra, Hunter, Trevor, and her two great grandchildren, Lilith and Hudson.
Ann did not want a service held. A private burial with immediate family will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Upper Valley Humane Society in Enfield, NH or West Fairlee Volunteer Fire Department, 979 VT-Route 113, West Fairlee, VT 05083.
