The Hanover High boysโ€™ basketball teamโ€™s run at an NHIAA Division II state title came to an end on Monday, when they fell in the semifinals to unbeaten Hollis-Brookline, 42-38, at Rochester Rec Center.

Despite a strong defensive performance by the Bears, which held Hollis-Brookline to its lowest point total of the season, they could not muster enough offense to pick up the win.

โ€œCredit to those guys, theyโ€™re undefeated for a reason, they definitely do a really good job of disrupting teams on defense,โ€ said Bearsโ€™ Head Coach Denver Greene.

โ€œI thought we had quite a few good looks at the rim, we just couldnโ€™t convert inside, and just couldnโ€™t carry the hot shooting at Pembroke onto the game yesterday,โ€ he added.

Roy Lucas had 15 points for the Bears in the loss. Hollis-Brookline led the Bears 31-23 heading into the fourth quarter and was able to take advantage of some Hanover turnovers to go up by 12 in the contestโ€™s final frame.

Trailing by 12 with under three minutes remaining, the Bears did make a run to cut their deficit in half, but eventually ran out of time and had to foul.

Down seven with about 15 seconds left, Greene put a full senior lineup on the court, and Andrew Cramer, who Greene described as a great teammate, hit a three at the buzzer to make the gameโ€™s final score.

โ€œLosing isnโ€™t how anybody wants to end their season, but Iโ€™m proud of the guys for playing hard until the end. The seniors have done so much for this program and leave it better than when they came in,โ€ Greene said.
