Etna, NH – Alexandra Louise Lihatsh Hickson Corwin, 83, died at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care on 1/8/2026 from complications of pneumonia. She had been a volunteer at the Jack Byrne Center, using her beautiful calligraphy to address sympathy card envelopes, so it felt welcome and appropriate that she could spend her final days there.
Alexandra was born in Lebanon, NH, to Peter and Helen (Courtis) Lihatsh. She grew up in Etna, NH, and moved back many years later to live in the old family home. A graduate of Hanover High School, class of 1960, she went on to the Rhode Island School of Design for a BFA in textile design and taught weaving in Shelburne, VT. She later earned her RN degree, and she worked as a psychiatric nurse on the night shift at Dartmouth Hitchcock for 20 years.
Alexandra was passionate about peace, poetry, interfaith spirituality, hot air balloons, and Leon Russell. She loved dining out with friends and the Red Hat Society, and building community at church potlucks and parties. Alexandra traveled to the pyramids, the Taj Mahal, Machu Picchu, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Cancun (pictured), and El Salvador, and she took more than one cross-country roadtrip. We will deeply miss her kindness, humor, and creativity.
Alexandra is survived by her siblings, Pat Mushlin and Peter Lihatsh; her son, Ben Hickson, and daughter-in-law, Katyana Hickson; her daughter, Dorothy Hickson; and her first husband, Jerry Hickson Jr., with whom she stayed friends to the end.
A memorial celebration will be held at the Etna Church’s Trumbull Hall later this spring. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Jack Byrne Center or the Upper Valley Land Trust. Alexandra cherished the natural beauty of New England and loved hearing Mink Brook from her bedroom windows.
