WOODSTOCK — A White River Junction man who last year was charged with lascivious conduct with a minor has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Joseph “JoJo” Vaillancourt was found incompetent to stand trial at a competency hearing in Windsor County Superior Court in Woodstock on Oct. 2, according to court records.

Vaillancourt, 43, has been held in federal custody since his arrest 12 months ago. Among the cache of firearms and ammo police found and seized at his third-floor apartment on North Main Street, was an unregistered gun silencer, along with suspected fentanyl.

Possession of an unregistered gun silencer is a federal offense.

In August, Vaillancourt was similarly judged incompetent to stand trial in the federal case when the U.S. District Court in Vermont determined him to be “suffering from a mental disease or defect.” He is therefore “unable to understand the nature and consequences of the proceedings against him or to assist properly in his defense,” according to court records.

The federal court ordered Vaillancourt hospitalized “in a suitable facility” for up to four months, at which time he is to be evaluated for competency again.

At the time of his competency hearing in Windsor court on Oct. 2, court records show that Vaillancourt participated remotely from a federal facility in Central Falls, R.I.

The 16-year-old minor whom Vaillancourt allegedly assaulted told police that Vaillancourt accused her of letting people come into his apartment and steal things, and threatened, “he was going to shoot me, and kill me, put me in an alleyway, just bury me.”
