BRADFORD, Vt. โ The chairwoman of the Parks and Recreation Commission narrowly won a seat on the Selectboard in Tuesday’s special election.
Jean Carlan earned 184 votes, Jarrod Kosakowski, 182; and Katie O’Donnell, 8.
Voters selected Carlan to fill the seat vacated by longtime Selectboard member Dan Perry III โ who resigned in May โ until Town Meeting in March.
But, given the narrow margin, Kosakowski has 10 days to request a recount, according to state statute. He did not respond immediately on Wednesday morning as to whether or not he will do so.
Carlan, 56, has lived in Bradford for 16 years and has served on the Parks and Recreation Commission since 2019. She is a technical manager of a lab in the chemistry department at Dartmouth College and has two children, ages 16 and 19.
โI hope to help communicate our needs and our solutions moving forward,โ she said in an interview last week. โTo listen to folks and bring the players together and make hard decisions.โ
In addition to Kosakowski, who is a soon-to-retire member of the Vermont National Guard, Carlan also beat out OโDonnell, a mom and administrative assistant, for the position.
Of the 1,996 registered voters in Bradford, 375 voted on Tuesday.
