Sharon
Skeet-Browning scored Sharon’s first goal unassisted in the 25th minute, then delivered a corner kick for a one-timer header by Sam Knoerlein five minutes later to make it 2-0.
Skeet-Browning finished the season with a team high 16 goals and has scored six times in the Phoenix’ last three games, all wins.
“He’s quick to the ball and has a great touch,” Sharon coach Rob Stainton said. “He’s got good awareness and a good stroke on the ball. We play him both on the front line and (at midfield).”
The Phoenix (10-4) also was bolstered by its defense, back four of Billy Connelli, Zev Ruben, Cole Ward and Alex Olszewski, who limited the Royals (7-7) primarily to long-range shots.
Thatcher Morrison manned net for Sharon, while Nicholas Howe and Dalton McDougall split time on the other end for South Royalton.
Both teams await their seeding and first-round playoff opponent in the Vermont Division IV tournament, which begins this week.
Wells River
Robert Burgwedel had two goals and an assist and Luke DeSouza scored a goal with two assists, while starting goalie Dashiel Fukushima and freshmen Luke Senn and Tyler Gray scored their first career goals.
Taiyo Galli, Johnny Vogelien and Wiatt Suich added goals for Rivendell, while Max Haehnel had an assist.
Fukushima made three stops in the first half before first-year junior Griffin Formica (two saves) moved from defense to keeper in the second.
“The guys had fun,” Rivendell coach Bob Thatcher said. “We flipped some guys around to different spots. It was a good day to do that.”
Rivendell now awaits its seeding and first-round playoff opponent in the Vermont Division III tournament.
Milford, n.h.
Lebanon contended Milford’s penalty kick came without a whistle, which was upheld by the NHIAA on Saturday. The teams will begin play with Milford retrying its penalty kick — presumably with a whistle this time — at 1 p.m. today in Milford.
The Spartans (4-10-1) were ahead of the Raiders (14-1), 2-1, at the conclusion of Friday’s game.
Wells River
Sienna Carter and Sierra Longto scored for the Raptors, with Riley Thomson and Jenna Gilbert recording assists. Both scores came in the first half; Carter’s in the 13th minute and Longto’s in the 38th.
Shaunna Simmons snagged four saves for Rivendell.
Sharon
Eleanor Frost scored four times with an assist, Mallory Lloyd netted a hat trick and an assist and Jasmin Johnson scored once for Sharon.
Abby Levy made a pair of saves for Sharon and Cassidy Wolf stopped four for the Royals.
The Phoenix is assured of a first-round bye, while South Royalton awaits its seeding and first-round opponent.
Montpelier
It was the only tie of the year for the Panthers (11-2-1).
Senior Regan Covey scored for Thetford, assisted by classmate Taylor Hollis.
Panthers goalie Danielle Robinson made a key stop seconds before halftime, but the hosts netted the equalizer 15 minutes into the second half.
Thetford will be the first or second seed in the upcoming Vermont Division III tournament.
Wilbraham, Mass.
Plymouth, n.h.
Speedy back Ryan Milliken scored on a 60-yard rush during Lebanon’s second possession, and Caleb Broughton’s extra point made it 7-0.
Plymouth found the end zone in the third quarter and went for the lead on a 2-point conversion, but its running back was stuffed by Raiders tackle Logan Trombley to preserve a one-point Lebanon lead.
After a Lebanon turnover on downs at the Bobcat 30 in the fourth quarter, Plymouth drove the field before missing a 25-yard field goal in the final moments.
“It was a back-and-forth game,” Lebanon coach Chris Childs said. “They went down the field on us at the end of the game, but luckily (Plymouth’s kicker) just pushed it wide right.”
West Canaan
Sheldon Farnsworth and Brandon Gardner each scored rushing touchdowns for Mascoma, which failed on a pair of 2-point conversion attempts.
Fairfax, Vt.
Noah Johnson scored on a 50-yard fumble return for the O’s in the third quarter, pulling them within 22-6 entering the fourth.
“I was a little disappointed with the way we finished the game,” Oxbow coach Sean Murphy said. “The score really should have been a lot closer.”
No. 7 Oxbow visits No. 2 Woodstock next weekend in the first round of the Vermont Division III playoffs.
Peterborough, n.h.
Hanover won by match scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-13, 20-25 and 15-9.
Rachel Neumann (nine kills, three blocks), Jayne Bungee (29 dogs, seven kills), Bella Collins (18 digs; 20-for-20 serving, three aces), Caitlin Vollmann (three kills, eight blocks), Kat Bristol (28-for-30 serving, nine aces, 20 digs, four kills) and Marie Pillsbury (18 digs, six kills) all contributed for Hanover.
Hardwick, Vt.
Harwood’s boys and girls both won.
Izzy Giesing placed fifth in 21:23; Leanna Burgess was 12th in 22:25; Emily Carson finished 19th in 23:34; Hannah Giesing placed 20th in 23:41 and Cassidy Pryer was 38th in 26:11 for the Olympians. Jessie Daigle (43rd; 27:17) wasn’t very far behind.
Erin Magill, of Harwood, won the race in 20:46.
Oxbow’s boys were seventh, William Douglas (19:22) leading all Olympians in 26th place. Kellen Durham (30th; 19:36), Jon Puffer (33rd; 19:42), William Moreno (45th; 20:35) and Tim Hodges (56th; 21:28) followed for the O’s, while Tim Rudder (22:03) and Briggs Heffernan (22:04) were 61st and 6nd, respectively.
U-32’s Steven Locke championed the boys race in 16:46.
