Windsor, Vt. — Blanche C. Bruce, 97, died Monday, May 9, 2016, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.

She was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Topsham, Vt. a daughter of Aldie and Josephine (Boutet) Couture. Blanche grew up and attended schools in North Hartland before beginning her nearly 40 year career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Windsor. She was married to Erwin Bruce at St. Anthony’s Church in White River Jct. in 1940 shortly before he enlisted in U.S. Navy. Blanche moved to Windsor in 1955 where she was a member of St. Francis Church. After her retirement in 1974 she moved to Somerville, Mass. to live with her sisters before returning to Windsor in the mid 1980’s. Mrs. Bruce has been a resident at the Ascutney House since 2012.

She is predeceased by her husband; sisters, Ida McCarthy and Marie Couture; and brothers, Oswald and Leon Couture. She leaves her nieces and nephews, Sheila Adams and her significant other Aaron Watkins, Nick Couture, Ray Couture and wife Dawn, Carolyn Coker and husband Alan, Linda West and husband George and Pauline England; as well as several grand nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Sunday, May 15 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Monday at 11 a.m. with burial following next door at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in White River Jct.
