LEBANON — With a workload shrinking as the coronavirus pandemic takes hold, the Special Needs Support Center is directing employees to devote some of their work hours to volunteer efforts throughout the community.

“As we see a slowdown in programs in response to COVID-19 we remain absolutely committed to our responsibility to serve our community,” Executive Director Laura Perez said in a news release. “We will uphold our commitment to be responsive and responsible as we proudly work together to create a community where people with special needs, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, can live their best lives.”

Four employees and one intern will participate in volunteer activities that take place in the nonprofit organization’s 32-town coverage zone, Perez said in an email. These efforts further the mission of the center, which is to help support people with disabilities and their families who may be more impacted by coronavirus and the steps needed to stop its spread, including social distancing.

Employees will help deliver Meals on Wheels to patrons and work with other community organizations to see what tasks need to be done.

“Many people with disabilities in the Upper Valley rely on free meals that are provided by our partners at the Listen Center and area senior centers. Their ability to access food, cleaning supplies, personal care and other supplies is now in serious jeopardy during this emergency,” Perez said in an email. “A wonderful way to support SNSC during this time is to consider a charitable donation to your area Meals on Wheels Program or the Listen Center so they can help us get vital to life goods in the hands of our most vulnerable neighbors.”
