The Upper Valley is honoring those who died in combat serving the United States with numerous ceremonies. While the federal holiday is Monday, May 27, there are also events taking place on Thursday, May 30, which the true date of Memorial Day.

Tuck Runs for Veterans

Blessing of the Bikes

Memorial Day services
in Springfield, Vt.

Following services at Memorial Park, a parade will travel from the park to the bridge at Route 11, where a wreath will be dropped to honor those who served in the Navy and Coast Guard. A special dedication will be made for Springfield veteran Gene Roger Rice, missing in action/lost in World War II, whose information was recently found.

Memorial Day parade
in Enfield
10 a.m., Enfield Police Department, 19 Main St.
A ceremony to honor those who made the supreme sacrifice. A parade starts at the police station, turns west on Route 4, stops at Veterans Memorial Park, left onto Oak Grove Street, stops at Oak Grove Cemetery, left onto Main Street, returns to the police station.

Memorial Day parade
in Lebanon

Parade begins at the former Sacred Heart School and proceeds to the Hanover Street bridge for a ceremony, then continues around Colburn Park, along Church Street to the School Street cemetery for a ceremony, then along School Street to Colburn Park for a Memorial Day program. Memorial Day parade
in Claremont
10 a.m.
A parade begins at Claremont Middle School on South Street, proceeds to Pleasant Street and stops at the intersection of Pleasant and West Pleasant streets, where the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post No. 29 and other veteran organizations will conduct a brief ceremony. A wreath will be placed at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Honor Guard will fire three volleys. The parade will resume and continue on Pleasant Street to Opera House Square, concluding at Broad Street Park. Speakers will pay tribute to fallen veterans, and the Honor Guard will fire three volleys at the conclusion of the speeches. Ceremonies will be completed by noon. 603-542-9222.

A memorial ceremony takes place under the flag on the Veterans Memorial brick walkway, with music by the Lyme Town Band, remarks and wreath laying by the Wildcat Battalion Army JROTC from Fall Mountain Regional High School in Langdon, N.H. The state of Vermont will honor the sacrifice of those men and women who have paid for our freedom with their lives. The Spaulding High School Junior ROTC Honor Guard and Vermont National Guard Honor Guard Teams will provide military honors, including a firing of three volleys and the playing of Taps.
