In a rematch of the 2007 World Series, which Boston swept in four games, the Red Sox took a 2-0 lead on Ortiz’s single in the first. The Rockies made it 2-1 when Gerardo Parra tripled; Ryan Raburn was originally ruled out at the plate for the third out, but the call was overturned.
Bradley doubled on the first pitch of the second inning, extending his major league-leading hitting streak and tying Wade Boggs for fifth-longest in franchise history. Christian Vazquez hit his first career triple and scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.
Charlie Blackmon’s solo homer cut the deficit to two runs, then Boston added three in the fourth when Ortiz followed a pair of walks with a double. Hanley Ramirez was hit by a pitch, chasing De La Rosa, before Chris Young singled to score Ortiz and make it 7-2.
Ramirez was lifted after being hit in the right big toe with a pitch. X-rays were negative. … LHP Eduardo Rodriguez made a rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket, striking out seven in seven innings and allowing one run on four hits.
The teams play the second game of the three-game series tonight. Colorado’s Chad Bettis (4-2) will face knuckleballer Steven Wright (3-4).
