And they also readily approved adding $20,000 to a special education trust fund and $15,000 to a tuition trust fund. The major debate came when resident Tony Smith called for repeal of the Dickey amendment, a federal law which hampers the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s ability to conduct research on gun violence. Smith had offered a similar measure that passed at the Piermont Town Meeting on Saturday.
His proposal passed Tuesday, 14-2. One of the opponents, Selectman Randy Subjeck, spoke against the measure, according to Tompkins.
