Mullen’s first career goal came on a penalty-corner feed from defender Caitlin Gaudet with three minutes to play in the first half, standing as the winner as the Hurricanes held on, 1-0.
Hartford (3-0) stayed undefeated with the win while the Marauders slipped to 2-3.
“We kind of dominated the first half, but Hanover’s goalie (Sophie Cardenali) did a good job making saves and clearing it out of the circle,” said Hartford coach Heath Haskell, whose team led 22-3 in PCs for the game. “We kept being super aggressive and it was a nice one-touch by Kennedy to finally put us ahead.”
The Hurricanes held steady in the second half, with defenders Morgan Fisk, Gaudet and Karen Cross not allowing much penetration.
“Neither team played particularly amazing; I’m not sure if both teams were a little bit nervous or what,” Haskell said. “I was never really concerned we were going to lose, but wanted to avoid overtime.”
Cardenali stopped 18 Hartford shots, Haskell said, while Rachel Loseby was called on only for a pair for Hartford.
