State Adds Charges to Windsor Man’s Sex Assault Case

White River Junction — Prosecutors have added five child pornography charges to a 59-year-old Windsor man’s pending sexual assault case after police say they located hundreds of “questionable images” on his electronic devices.

In June 2015, Richard J. Coleman pleaded not guilty to two felony charges of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and one felony count of aggravated sexual assault. Police allege Coleman repeatedly sexually abused a girl under the age of 13 in 2015.

Coleman, who is being held without bail at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield Vt., appeared in Windsor Superior Court on Tuesday to answer to the additional charges. He pleaded not guilty to all five misdemeanor counts of possessing child pornography.

According to a supplemental affidavit filed in his case, police searched several of Coleman’s electronic devices and allegedly found child porn images on three computers.

Prosecutors on Tuesday also amended his aggravated sexual assault charge and replaced it with a charge that states Coleman allegedly engaged in “repeated” aggravated sexual assault acts. Coleman also pleaded not guilty to that amended charge on Tuesday.

As a general practice, the Valley News doesn’t identify the victims of sex crimes. The victim is known to Coleman.

Coleman’s next court hearing hasn’t yet been scheduled.

Naked Pedestrian Strolls Through Burlington

Burlington — A naked pedestrian strolling through Burlington this week has caused quite a stir.

The man was first spotted Tuesday walking through the city’s Church Street Marketplace completely nude, with the exception of sneakers and a bandana on his head.

Bystanders say they were amazed to see him walk around the busy shopping and dining district.

Burlington Police Lt. Paul Glynn said that while the man’s nakedness is “inappropriate,” it’s not necessarily illegal as long as he left home naked and isn’t disrobing in public or harassing people.

The man turned down a request by WCAX-TV for an interview.

Man to Change Plea in N.H. Teen Drug Death Case

Concord — A man who pleaded not guilty to giving a 17-year-old girl a powerful painkiller that caused her death is scheduled for a change of plea hearing.

Mark Ross is charged in connection with the death of Evangelique “Eve” Tarmey, who died in a Rochester, N.H., motel of acute fentanyl intoxication in October.

Tarmey’s mother, Jazzmyn Rood and Ross’ boyfriend, is charged with concealing knowledge and giving false information to police about the drug’s distribution.

Ross and Leslie Aberle were scheduled for a joint trial in July in federal court. Instead, Ross, who pleaded not guilty in February, is scheduled for a change of plea hearing on July 18.

Messages were left with his lawyers and a prosecutor.

There was no change for Aberle as of Thursday afternoon.

A police detective testified Ross said he thought the drug was heroin.
