ROYALTON, VT — Madeline J. Tortolano, 89, of Royalton died Saturday morning, November 23, 2019 at her home.
She was born November 16, 1930 in Woburn, MA; the daughter of Peter and Mary (DuRocher) Coccoluto. She graduated from Woburn High School in 1948 and attended Chandler Business School in Boston. She had worked as a secretary for American Mutual Insurance Company and was married to Pasquale J. “Pat” Tortolano in Woburn on May 4, 1952. They resided briefly in Virginia while stationed in the Navy, then lived in Stoneham before returning to Woburn where they lived until settling in Royalton, Vermont in 1972.
In their younger years, while raising a family of eight children, they still found time to entertain neighbors and friends into their home, go dancing and enjoy time with the church community.
It was important for her family to have dinner together every night with a few extra settings available for anyone that may stop by.
Madeline and Pat founded Royal Plumbing and Heating in Royalton as a family run business. Madeline was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Royalton Women’s Club, and a past Regent of Catholic Daughters of America. She had been a girl scout leader and enjoyed attending the athletic events of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Montague Golf Club Women’s League, enjoyed completing her morning crossword puzzle, bowling, dancing, playing bingo, gardening, caring for her animals, traveling, feeding and watching the birds. Madeline cherished spending time with her friends and family.
Madeline is survived by her eight children which includes her sons Edward Tortolano of Key West, FL, David Tortolano of McAplin, FL , Paul Tortolano of Royalton, and Daniel Tortolano of Somerton, AZ; and daughters Debra Farrell of Little Torch Key, FL, Joanne Tortolano of Yuma, AZ, Sandra Butson of Lisbon, NH and Susan Tortolano of Royalton. Also sister Ann Matrundola of Winchester, MA; and her brothers Peter Coccoluto of Winchester, MA, Dr. Ralph Coccoluto of Brunswick, ME, and Robert Coccoluto of Wake Forest, NC. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Louise Kwapien in 1980 and her loving husband, Pasquale in 2007.
Calling hours are from 1:00-3:00 pm Sunday, Dec. 1st at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday, Dec. 2nd at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bethel.
