HANOVER — Eric Sachleben picked a great time for his first collegiate goal. The freshman midfielder scored in the 72nd minute to help the Dartmouth College men’s soccer team beat the defending Ivy League champion Princeton Tigers, 1-0, at Burnham Field on Saturday.

The two teams have won the last six Ivy League titles, four by the Big Green, and figure to be battling it out all autumn after this tight matchup to start each team’s Ivy schedule. Dartmouth improved to 4-3-1 overall, 1-0-0 in Ivy League play. Princeton is 5-2-0 overall, 0-1-0 in the Ancient Eight.

The Tigers held an 11-7 edge in shots and a 9-4 edge in corners, but the Big Green defense did plenty to preserve the shutout. Keeper Alex Budnik made four saves for Dartmouth to record his second blanking of the season.

Dartmouth will pause its Ivy League schedule to host Vermont on Tuesday at 7 p.m. After dealing with the Catamounts, the Big Green will hit the road to play at Yale on Saturday and then at Penn on Oct. 19.
