WOODSTOCK — A 29-year-old Woodstock man has been accused of stealing money and a child’s medicine from a neighbor’s apartment while she and her sick child were at the hospital, according to a news release from the Woodstock Police Department.

James Andrew Badger pleaded not guilty in Windsor Superior Court this week to one felony count of burglary and misdemeanor larceny in the incident. Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Mann set his bail at $20,000 and ordered him to stay 300 feet away from the neighbor, Dana Hurley, and be under curfew, according to court documents.

The charges stem from a complaint police received Tuesday from Hurley, who lives in a Safford Commons apartment, according to an affidavit written by Woodstock Police Chief Robbie Blish. Hurley told police that she was in the hospital with her sick child on Tuesday when her motion-activated security camera showed a man entering her apartment around 5:30 a.m. and again around 4:30 p.m., the affidavit said.

Hurley told police that she recognized the man as Badger, who was a neighbor of hers, and that she believes he stole money, jewelry, a speaker and $600 worth of emergency allergy medication, according to police.

Initially, police could not find Badger, but when they got a search warrant for his apartment, they found him hiding inside, according to a news release from the police department.
