Glendale, Ariz. — Carlos Bacca beat goalkeeper Tim Howard by sliding to poke in a headed cross in the 31st minute, and the United States finished fourth in the Copa America with a 1-0 defeat against Colombia on Saturday night.

After losing to Argentina 4-0 in the semifinals, the 31st-ranked U.S. was beaten by No. 3 Colombia for the second time in the 16-nation tournament.

Bobby Wood came closest to scoring for the U.S. when he hit a post in the 62nd, one minute after Colombia’s Juan Cuadrado hit the underside of the crossbar.

The U.S. matched its previous best finish in the tournament, fourth in 1995 at Uruguay.

Argentina plays Chile for the title tonight in East Rutherford, N.J.

Washington — Lamar Neagle had a goal and an assist to give D.C. United an early lead that stood up in a 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night in MLS.

D.C., after being shut out in its two previous games and four of six, opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Luciano Acosta chipped a perfect pass over the defense to the foot of Neagle, who volleyed it in from 10 yards out.

Sean Franklin scored the second goal, his first of the season, when he knocked in Neagle’s cross.

Basketball U.S. Completes Men’s Roster

Kyrie Irving and Harrison Barnes will play for the U.S. Olympic basketball team, filling out the 12-man roster.

Irving and Barnes accepted spots two days before the Americans plan to announce the team headed to Rio.

The Americans had received 10 confirmations by Thursday and were holding spots for Irving and LeBron James, who wanted more time to decide after winning the NBA championship. James opted not to play but Irving should be an important player after a number of top point guards withdrew.

Irving was the MVP of the 2014 Basketball World Cup.

The rest of the roster: Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Paul George, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmy Butler and DeAndre Jordan.

ESPN first reported Irving would play. Barnes’ decision was reported by Yahoo Sports.

Golf Hurley Leads in Md.

Bethesda, Md. — Naval Academy graduate Billy Hurley III shot a 4-under 67 to take a two-stroke lead over Ernie Els into the final round of the Quicken Loans National.

Hurley had four birdies in his bogey-free round at Congressional to reach 15 under. The 607th-ranked player in the world said he couldn’t think of a better tournament to be his first PGA Tour victory because of its proximity to his Annapolis home and connections to the military.

Els holed out for eagle on the par-4 12th and finished with a 65. The 46-year-old hit a 9-iron from the fairway from 157 yards out, the first time he said he’s ever “slam-dunked” a ball right into the hole.

Jon Rahm, who held the lead after one round and shared it with Hurley after two, struggled. Playing his first event as a professional, the 21-year-old former Arizona State star from Spain had four bogeys in a 70 that left him three strokes behind Hurley.

At Rogers, Ark, top-ranked Lydia Ko eagled the par-5 18th to tie the course record at 9-under 62 and take a share of the second-round lead Saturday in the LPGA Tour’s NW Arkansas Championship.

Ko matched Morgan Pressel at 14-under 128 at Pinnacle Country Club, tying the tournament 36-hole record set by Veronica Felibert in 2012.

At Madison, Wis., Jean-Francois Remesy had two eagles in an 8-under 64 to take the second-round lead in the PGA Tour Champions’ inaugural American Family Insurance Championship.

Gene Sauers and Bart Bryant were a stroke back.

PGA Tour Cancels W. Va. Event

Bethesda, Md. — The PGA Tour announced Saturday that the Greenbrier Classic scheduled for next month has been canceled because of the devastating flooding in West Virginia.

The tournament had been scheduled for July 7-10. Tour officials say the Old White TPC at the Greenbrier Resort, the host course, suffered extensive damage from the flooding and “is beyond reasonable repair to conduct the tournament.”

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said officials were heartbroken by the devastation in West Virginia and offered their thoughts and prayers.

More than 150 players had committed to playing the Greenbrier, which was set to follow the Bridgestone Invitational. The PGA Tour is at Congressional this weekend for Tiger Woods’ Quicken Loans National.

KHL Turns to China

Moscow — The Russia-based Kontinental Hockey League has confirmed that it will add a Chinese club next season as it competes against the NHL in Asian markets.

The move means the 2022 Winter Olympic host city of Beijing now has a team in what is widely regarded as the strongest league outside the NHL. However, it is likely to rely almost exclusively on foreign pros rather than Asian players.

Kunlun Red Star has been approved by the KHL board to join the league and now faces a rush to get ready for the start of play in August. The KHL said a formal contract ceremony will take place Saturday in China.

With just under two months until the season starts Aug. 22, the KHL said in a statement that it was still not clear who would play for Kunlun or how it would recruit players.
