Claremont — It took a couple of weeks before the Lebanon High boys lacrosse team put its offense together under first-year head coach Rob Fett. Once done, the Raiders wasted no time opening the floodgates.

Lebanon defeated undermanned Stevens, 18-7, at Monadnock Park on Friday afternoon for its first win of the season. Fett’s squad scored a combined 15 goals in season-opening losses to Bishop Brady (10-9 on April 13) and Hopkinton (19-6 on Tuesday). On Friday, 10 different Raiders found their way onto the scoresheet.

Stevens fell to 0-4, but scored a season-high seven goals.

“Kudos to Stevens,” Fett said. “They’re having a hard time. They just don’t have the numbers. … With their lack of numbers, the score was a bit lopsided.”

Nate Damren (six goals, two assists) and Nate Chickering (five goals, three assists) both had season-best performances for Lebanon. Damren, a senior, leads the team with 13 goals and four assists.

Jack Sandmann, Jamison Rios, Aaron Damren and Patrick Mason each had a goal and an assist for the Raiders. Jordan Hammond scored twice, Soloman Mellish added two helpers and Ben Gerow provided another. Collin Kiernan netted a goal, and Caiden Skakalsi and Gareth Davis split time in net for Lebanon.

“They both played well,” Fett said. “Caiden starting playing lacrosse four weeks ago. He was impressive, not only in his saves but in his ability to clear.”

Lebanon (1-2) hosts Laconia on Monday. Stevens travels to Monadnock on Monday.

Girls Lacrosse

Bow 16, Lebanon 7

Bow, n.h. — Lebanon (0-3) played the second half without standout midfielder Izzy Peress, who fell hard when tripped shortly before intermission. Attacker Emma Hansen later came off with asthma difficulties, and position mate Josie Hastings, who plays for both the varsity and the junior varsity, suffered a knee injury during the latter team’s game. Defender Emily Hunnewell also took a stick to the head during the JV contest.

“The hustle and effort were there, but turnovers killed us,” said coach Sara Ecker. “The things we worked on in practice this week, having patience on offense, our clears and ride, those shone through. But we had trouble with draw controls, and we got to the end line first on barely any shots that went wide.”

Lebanon won nine of 25 draw controls, was outshot, 42-19, and trailed, 9-4, at halftime. The visitors scored three of the second half’s first five goals but couldn’t stop the Falcons (3-1) in front of goaltender Elizabeth Jones, who made 12 saves. Hannah Bunten had four goals, and Katie Berthasavage, Ashlyn Taber and Clara Cole also tallied for the Raiders.

Next week is grueling for Lebanon, which visits Laconia (3-1) on Monday, hosts Derryfield (5-0) on Wednesday and travels to Pelham (4-0) on Friday. Laconia routed the Raiders in last year’s playoffs, Derryfield has won its games this season by a combined 79-27 and Pelham is roughly a four-hour round trip when riding in a school bus.
