Hanover — Brunch in Hanover worked for the Dartmouth College women’s basketball team on Tuesday morning.

Trailing by 10 points at halftime, Dartmouth used a 40-point second half to top New Hampshire, 57-49, at Leede Arena for the Big Green’s first win over the Wildcats since 2010. Dartmouth improved to 6-1 with the victory, while UNH — last season’s America East regular-season champion and the preseason favorite to repeat — dropped to 6-3.

Junior Isalys Quinones led the charge for Dartmouth with 16 points and seven rebounds. Cy Lippold and Emily Slagle added 11 points apiece for the Big Green.

“The first half was not the style of play that we are trying to play here,” Dartmouth head coach Belle Koclanes said in a news release. “The halftime conversation for us was that this wasn’t anything technical; it’s not about changing any type of game plan, it’s about our effort and the pace of play, that needs to change. The second half, that’s the way we want to play.”

Down by as many as 13 points before halftime, Dartmouth slowly chipped away at UNH after the break.

Kate Letkewicz joined Quinones and Lippold in keying Dartmouth’s offense, which scored seven points off turnovers in the third quarter and 20 points in all.

The Big Green used two short runs in the fourth to take control. UNH tied the contest for the sixth and final time, 47-47, with 1:43 to go on a Brittni Lai layup, but Lippold drained a 3-pointer to put Dartmouth ahead to stay.

The Big Green hosts Maine on Saturday at noon before visiting Colorado on Monday night.

Castleton 62Colby-Sawyer 37

New London— Brooke Raiche scored 15 points and Makayla Farrara added 13 as Castleton (7-0, 3-0 NAC) dominated Colby-Sawyer (4-2, 1-1) to stay undefeated.

Emmani Robinson and Sunapee’s Lexie Hamilton scored eight points apiece for Colby-Sawyer. Robinson pulled down 13 rebounds.

Men’s Basketball

Sacred Heart 79Dartmouth 73

Fairfield, Conn. — Sean Hoehn hit four 3-pointers and scored 19 points, Joseph Lopez had 14 points and nine rebounds and Sacred Heart beat Dartmouth.

Dartmouth’s four-point possession pulled the Big Green within 69-58 with 3:57 to go. But Sacred Heart went 8-of-12 from the free-throw line in the final 1:30 to seal it.

Zach Radz added 17 points for Sacred Heart (4-5). His layup in the final seconds of the first half gave SHU a 40-32 lead.

Taylor Johnson had 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals for Dartmouth (2-4). Chris Knight and Brendan Barry each added 13 points, and Miles Wright had 10.

Johnson and Barry each hit a 3-pointer, and Knight added a putback as Dartmouth got within six points with 21 seconds to go. Radz missed two free throws, but the Big Green couldn’t get another 3-pointer to drop in the closing seconds.

Next up for the Big Green is a Friday night game at Maine (2-7) that will be streamed live on ESPN3.

Colby-Sawyer 71Castleton 69

New London — Jourdain Bell was fouled and made two free throws with 1.1 seconds left to lift Colby-Sawyer (4-2, 2-0 NAC) over Castleton (3-5, 1-2).

Colby-Sawyer’s Taylor Grande led all players with 19 points, while teammate Patrick Coffey added 15 points. Dana Bean added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Chargers travel to Lyndon on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip.
