Article of note: Hanover holds its Town Meeting in May, but there’s plenty of Hanover School District business, including new contracts with teachers and support staff. If voters approve, the district will pay teachers another $196,000 next year and another $158,000 the year after. And if voters approve the agreement with the support staff, the district would see spending increases of $43,000, $36,000 and $43,000 over the next three years.
Contested races: Eight candidates are vying for four spots on the Hanover School Board. Incumbent Benjamin Keeney and challengers Antonia Barry and James Larrick are running for a pair of three-year seats. And incumbents Kevin Knuuti and Deborah Bacon Nelson, who was appointed last summer, are running against newcomer Stuart Bray and former board member Kelly McConnell, who stepped off the board late last year to teach French at Hanover High School after 6½ years on the board. Hanover native Luke Kraus is running as a write-in candidate.
Budgets and spending articles: The cost of educating grades K-5 at Hanover’s Ray School is budgeted to increase by $471,000, or 3.9%, to $12.6 million. The total budget of $14.25 million includes capital and special education costs.
When, where and how to vote: The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in the Hanover High School gym.
