NEWPORT, N.H. — Another resident has died at Woodlawn Care Center, the fourth to die after testing positive for COVID-19 during the ongoing outbreak at the Newport nursing home.
The Woodlawn outbreak, the largest thus far reported in the Upper Valley, includes a total of 54 people; 33 residents and 21 workers. Two residents were hospitalized as of Thursday morning, according to an update from Chris Martin, Woodlawn’s administrator.
Twenty-two residents and 16 workers have recovered.
No new cases were reported on Thursday. The outbreak began Oct. 21.
EAST CORINTH — After Waits River Valley School officials learned that an employee had test positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, they decided not to reopen for in-person learning at least until after Thanksgiving.
This first positive case in the K-8 school follows several other cases in the Orange County towns of Corinth and Topsham, which the school serves, as well as in nearby Barre, Vt., that prompted a shift to remote learning for the early part of this week.
Orange East Supervisory Union Superintendent Emilie Knisley in a Thursday message urged families to abide by protocols to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including wearing masks, avoiding people from outside their households, following travel guidelines and getting tested if they have been to a social gathering or been exposed to someone carrying the virus.
