White River Junction — Three Upper Valley Aquatic Club athletes broke meet records in a dominant performance for the home team at Sunday’s Connecticut Valley Invitational swim meet at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center.

Woodstock’s Isabelle Hiller set meet marks in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke in the girls’ age 13-14 division. White River Junction’s Will Kainen also had two meet records, in the 100 freestyle and 100 breast, among boys ages 13-14. Hartland’s Jack Wadsworth also broke a CVI record in the 100 backstroke, one of his three race wins for the day.

Like Wadsworth, Hiller and Kainen were triple event winners on Sunday. Other UVAC athletes matching that feat included New London’s Aiden Ayers (boys 8 and under), Springfield, N.H.’s Margaret Rivard (girls 9-10), Lyme Rosie Keith (girls 11-12) and Grantham’s Clare Brown (girls senior open).

UVAC dominated the 11-club home meet, scoring 200 points to top the runner-up Taunton (Mass.) Tiger Sharks by 136 points.

Peewee White Goes 2-0-1

West Lebanon — The Hanover Peewee White youth hockey team kicked off a two-win, one-tie weekend with a 5-2 defeat of the Concord Capitals at Campion Rink on Saturday.

Parker Broughton had a hat trick for the Wild, with Will Sandmann and Satch Bowie providing the other goals. Angus Spence earned the win in goal for Hanover.

The Wild played twice on Sunday, getting started by playing New Hampshire East to a 1-1 tie at Phillips Exeter Academy on a Griffin Urnezis goal and Bowie’s superb play between the pipes. After rallying for that deadlock, the Wild did the same thing later Sunday in a 2-1 win over the Dover Stars. Devon Pleger and Mateo Trimble scored a minute apart to reverse a 1-0 deficit.

Jordan McConnell had his strongest game of the season for Hanover against the Stars, earning a pair of assists.

Bantam Green Stops Two

Hooksett, n.h. — Luke Ives posted a 13-save shutout to backstop the Hanover Bantam Green’s 3-0 blanking of the New Hampshire Monarchs at Tri-Town Arena on Saturday.

Casey Graham tipped in a Curtis Rice shot in the opening period, with Alex Rockmore also earning an assist, to get the Wild going. Griffin Auch potted a John Hill pass and Graham added his second goal of the contest on a Rice pass for Hanover’s final goals.

The Wild moved over to Manchester’s Westside Arena later in the day for a 6-1 defeat of the Manchester Flames. Nick Lee, Graham, Cole Guldenzoph, Ben Wagner and Jacob Rimberg scored in a five-goal second-period assault to decide the game. Hill contributed Hanover’s remaining goal in the third stanza.

Genzer Leads NLG

Norwood, Mass. — Norwich’s Katie Genzer had the top all-around finish among Northern Lights Gymnastics competitors at the Boston Classic meet on Jan. 14-15.

Genzer was fourth among Level 5 senior competitors with 34.10 points. Her performance included a second-place finish in the vault (8.80 points) and a third in the floor exercise (8.55).

Hanover’s Abby Feyrer took fifth overall in her Level 8 senior division with 33.50 points. She had an implement best of fourth in the floor (8.80) as part of her day.

Norwich’s Molly Coates (Level 9 senior) and Woodstock’s Kendall Taylor (Level 7 senior) both were sixth in their classes. Ten NLB competitors posted all-around tallies at the meet.

NLG’s McBride Victorious

Essex Junction, Vt. — Norwich’s Shaylee McBride claimed the all-around title among Level 9 senior gymnasts, bringing a win to Wilder’s Northern Lights Gymnatics at the Royal Classic meet on Jan. 6-7.

McBride won her division with 32.925 all-around points. Her victory included a win in the vault with 8.975 points.

Three other NLG athletes placed third in all-around scoring: Hanover’s Alicia Sanyal (Level 4 senior B; 35.20), Norwich’s Katie Genzer (Level 5 senior; 34.90) and Woodstock’s Kendall Taylor (Level 7 junior B; 34.775). Three others — Lebanon’s Whitney Aldrich (Levl 5 junior A), Hartford’s Makenzie Arnold (Level 7 junior B) and Hanover’s Abby Feyer (Level 8 senior) finished fourth in their all-around competitions.

Newport Trio Recognized

Boxborough, Mass. — Three athletes training out of Newport’s Rising Sun Martial Arts were recognized as Twin State champions during Saturday’s Twin State Martial Arts Association awards banquet.

Amelia Gallup was a repeat champion, having won a women’s black belt forms division in 2014. She was recognized as a double crown champion on Saturday for both empty-hand and weapons forms in the adult female black belt division.

Two others, Calla Baker and George Dube, won Twin State honors for the first time. Baker, a second-degree junior black belt, also won a double crown championship in empty-hand forms and sparring. Dube, also a second-degree junior black belt, won his male age group in empty-hand forms, weapons forms and sparring. Dube is Rising Sun’s first triple crown champion.

Dartmouth Hoop Clinic

Hanover — In conjunction with its annual breast cancer awareness game, the Dartmouth College women’s basketball team will hold a youth clinic on Feb. 1 at Leede Arena.

The clinic, which will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m., is open to girls in grades K-8 and boys in grades K-6. For a suggested donation of $10, participants will get to work with Big Green players for an hour, receive a Dartmouth women’s basketball T-shirt and receive a ticket to the Big Green’s Play 4 Kay game against Columbia, scheduled for Feb. 3 at 5 p.m.

Purcell Wins for FSA

Hanover — Ford Sayre Academy athlete Alex Purcell claimed a race win when he took the Macomber Cup giant slalom at Mount Sunapee on Sunday, the highlight of a successful weekend for the club.

Purcell was joined in the FSA top finish department by Matt Siegel (10th) and Frans Luttmer (12th). Eva Schiffman fronted a hefty day for the academy girls by placing third. Teammates Maya Holmes (seventh), Isla Cotter (eighth), Riley Craft (11th), Siena Curtis (12th) and Katie Stannard (14th) all cracked the top 14.

Meanwhile, Ford Sayre Ski Council U12s hit Loon Mountain for the Tina Sutton Memorial race. Nick Reiss was third for FSSC, while Schuyler Clapp, Zach Tracy, Adam Goodney, Gavin Munson Zach Garfield and Ty Christensen recorded a 5-6-8-9-10-12 finish. Virginia Adams (16th), Campbell Madden (17th) and Dahlia Fuld (21st) topped the girls.

Storrs Hill Family Fun Night

Lebanon — The Storrs Hill Ski Area in downtown Lebanon will host a Family Fun Night on Feb. 3.

The event runs from 5:30-9 p.m. and will offer families any number of ways to enjoy the evening. The highlight will be a cardboard box race challenge against the host Lebanon Outing Club, with a family season pass up for grabs.

On top of a night for skiing and snowboarding, the evening will include grilling, a campfire, music, snow volleyball, a 50-50 raffle and dancing. The cost to participate is $30 per family.

Moonlight Snowshoe in Vt.

Brownsville — The Climb Fitness Center will host a one-hour guided moonlight snowshoe tour of Ascutney Trails on Feb. 10.

The hiking tour takes place from 5-6 p.m. Afterward, participants are invited to enjoy hot cocoa by the center’s fire pit. Hikers can bring their own shoeshoes or rent them from the center. Rental shoes will support weights between 40 and 260 pounds.

Red Zone 5K

Wilder — The Hartford Parks and Recreation Department is once again prepping for the Super Bowl by hosting its fifth Red Zone 5K fun run and walk on Feb. 3, the day before the big game.

The race, which is open to runners, walkers and families with strollers or leashed dogs, begins and ends at the Dothan Brook School, with a 9 a.m. start time. Participants will cover a route that includes parts of the Wilder Pedestrian Path along with back roads in Wilder village. The course is certified by USA Track and Field; proceeds from the day benefit Hartford Parks and Rec scholarship programs.

Youth Ice Fishing Derby

Quechee — The Hartford Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for its 17th Youth Ice Fishing Derby on Dewey’s Pond on Jan. 27.

The free event, which coincides with Free Ice Fishing Day across Vermont, will run from 7 a.m.-noon.

The derby will be split into three age groups — ages 6 and younger, ages 7-10 and ages 11-14 — for prizes. Food, refreshments, fishing holes and bait will be provided, along with a limited supply of equipment.
