Enfield
The girl, whose name is being withheld, suffered a leg injury, but wasn’t transported for medical treatment, Enfield Police Chief Richard Crate said.
The driver of the SUV — Susan Dutton, 54, of Enfield — was turning from Anderson Hill Road onto Route 4 westbound in an attempt to get ahead of the school bus at the time of the incident, Crate said.
The bus driver had the yellow lights activated and was stopped when the collision occurred, Crate said; The lights hadn’t yet turned red.
The bus was scheduled to continue west on Route 4 toward Enfield Village School, the direction Dutton was headed, Crate said.
“She didn’t see one of the kids and pulled out and struck (her),” Crate said.
Dutton, who lives off Anderson Hill Road, stopped after the collision and has been cooperative with authorities, Crate said.
Reached by telephone, Dutton referred a reporter to the police report before hanging up.
The girl’s mother was with her at the time of the incident, Crate said.
“We are just lucky that it wasn’t worse than it was,” Crate said.
The incident remains under investigation, and a citation is possible, Crate said.
