Presence of owls is a race to rats
It was amusing to read about New Yorkers’ delight regarding the presence of barn owls in the Upper West Side of Manhattan (“Family of barn owls captivates Big Apple,” Saturday, Oct. 17, page D5).
The owls’ “special” presence is doubtlessly a product of the well-documented rat infestation problem on the island, a winged race to the rats amid the rat race that is NYC.
