Voters in New Hampshire’s state Senate District 1 will choose between Republican incumbent David Rochefort of Littleton and Democrat Cathleen Fountain of Dalton on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The Valley News sent a survey to both candidates about their experience, why they are running and what they see as the biggest issue facing the state. Fountain did not respond. Rochefort’s answers, edited lightly for style, appear below.

Rochefort, a pharmacist, names affordability as the top concern he hears from constituents. He points to his opposition to new or higher income and sales taxes and backs the school spending cap on the November ballot. Fountain did not return the questionnaire.

Republican · NH Senate District 1

David Rochefort

52, Republican, Littleton

Political experience: New Hampshire House of Representatives, 2022-2024; New Hampshire Senate, 2024-present.

Professional experience: As a pharmacist, I owned a pharmacy until 2022. Currently I work remotely for a specialty pharmacy.

Community service: Littleton Zoning Board; youth sports volunteer.

Why are you running? Born and raised in the North Country, I’m running to be a strong voice for our rural communities, which means fighting for affordability and making sure our region is never overlooked in Concord.

Biggest issue: Affordability tops what I hear from constituents. Inflation has driven up housing and grocery costs. I’ve opposed new or higher income and sales taxes to protect your wallet. This November, vote yes on the ballot measure capping school spending to lower property taxes.
