NEWPORT — A 19-year-old man faces three felony counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated, among other charges, following a car crash that seriously injured four people in September.
Dylan Stanley, a Newport resident, faces multiple Class B felony charges, including three counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated; two counts of second-degree assault; and one count of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon. He also faces one Class A misdemeanor count of simple assault, Newport Police said in a Monday morning news release.
On Sept. 12, Newport police and fire personnel responded to a collision at 72 Breakneck Road, where they located a heavily damaged Cadillac off the side of the road in the trees, around 10 p.m., according to a Sept. 14 release.
Emergency personnel transported all four occupants, which included two adults and two juveniles, to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, the original release stated.
At the time of the initial release two days after the crash, the two adult occupants were listed as in critical but stable condition, one juvenile was in stable condition and the second juvenile had been released.
All four individuals have since been released, Newport Police Chief Alex Lee confirmed Sept. 30 by email.
Police named Stanley in the Sept. 14 release and said they were investigating whether speed and impairment were contributing factors. The release also called for more information about the accident and details of the driver’s activity that evening.
After interviewing witnesses, collecting digital forensic evidence, analyzing vehicle data with assistance from state police and collecting toxicology samples, investigators determined that Stanley caused serious bodily injury to himself and his passengers, according to the release.
Police allege that Stanley drove with an alcohol concentration over the legal limit and that he drove more than 75 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone, according to an Oct. 19 release. In New Hampshire, the legal limit is 0.08% for drivers 21 and older and 0.02% for drivers under 21.
On Oct. 16, Stanley surrendered to the Newport Police Department on a warrant, according to police, and has since been released on personal recognizance pending his arraignment in Newport Circuit Court.
The maximum sentence for a Class B felony is seven years in prison and a $4,000 fine, and the maximum sentence for a Class A misdemeanor is one year in prison and a $2,000 fine, pursuant to RSA 651:2.
As of Monday morning, the New Hampshire court system does not have records regarding Stanley’s case.
