Support Benson for Vermont Senate

I am writing to express my strong support for electing John Benson to continue as Orange County senator in the November election.

Vermont faces serious fiscal and economic challenges, including high public spending, a shrinking tax base, and rising costs for families and businesses. At this moment, the state needs practical, levelheaded leadership in Montpelier — leaders who can work constructively with Governor Scott and focus on sustainable, cost-effective solutions.

State government must address spending discipline while improving outcomes, especially in education, where high per-student costs have not produced the results Vermonters should expect. We need legislators with management experience, judgment, and independence to evaluate public services, set priorities, and deliver better value for taxpayers.

I have known and worked with John for nearly 40 years, and I believe he brings exactly the kind of practical experience, steady judgment, and problem-solving ability Vermont needs in the legislature. His recent open letter to the Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission demonstrates his ability to understand complex issues, cut through political noise, and identify constructive steps forward.

John’s nearly 50-year career as an environmental engineer and Vermont business owner gives him a valuable perspective on infrastructure, regulation, community needs, and responsible public investment. That experience makes him exceptionally well positioned to represent Orange County and contribute meaningfully in Montpelier.

John’s professional and civic contributions to Vermont are substantial. Over his distinguished career, he has supported the societal, environmental, and economic needs of communities across the state, and his work was recognized when he was named Vermont’s Engineer of the Year in 2018.

John understands one of Vermont’s central challenges: encouraging the economic investment needed to strengthen communities and broaden the tax base while protecting the natural resources that define the state. His experience gives him the perspective to support practical growth without compromising responsible environmental stewardship.

I am grateful for John Benson’s willingness to continue serving Orange County and Vermont after a long and distinguished professional career, and I encourage voters throughout Orange County to support him in this election.
