Elizabeth “Betsy” Christy

Elizabeth D. “Betsy” Christy, 73, passed away on September 28, 2026 in Sun City Center, Florida after a long battle with multiple medical problems.

Betsy Christy was born to C. Dana & Esther H. Christy on November 20, 1952 and grew up in West Canaan, N.H. Betsy attended the Canaan Elementary School and spent her high school years at The Kents Hill School in Readville, Maine. As a youth, she was active in 4-H and an excellent skier.

Her 4-H projects included sewing, cooking, crafts and gardening. She also had horses and even raised a dozen turkeys for a couple of years. Her excellence in 4-H was recognized with a trip to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago.

Betsy skied competitively as a youngster, at The Kents Hill School, and then at Johnson State College (Class of ’74, now part of the Vermont State University). She skied all over the northeast and even in the Rocky Mountain west; and coached skiing for a couple of years after college graduation. In 2007, she was enshrined in her college’s Athletics Hall of Fame recognizing her skiing excellence.

Betsy was a long-term employee at the University of New Hampshire in Durham and lived in the Dover, N.H. area. She later moved to Maine before retiring to Florida.

Betsy is survived by her sister Carol J. Rickauer of Arkansas and brother John (Marjean) Christy of Wisconsin. She is also survived by 7 nieces and nephews, 11 grandnieces and grandnephews, and one great grandnephew. She is also survived by special best friend Brandy (Robert) Mason and godson Andrew Janelle, all of New Hampshire. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, Fred J. Rickauer, and a special best friend Gaye (Michael) Dean formerly of Maine and Florida.

There will not be any services and her ashes will be scattered at a favorite spot in New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pope Memorial Humane Society (221 County Farm Rd, Dover, NH 03820).
