The Dartmouth College field hockey team picked up its first win in Ivy League play in three years on Friday, hosting Penn and blanking the Quakers, 4-0, at Chase Astro Field.
Ruby Walsh led the Big Green’s offense with two goals. Lilly Venezia and Lucia Campaño each scored, and Ava Russo and Amelie Luessmann added assists. Kylie McKinley played a clean game in net, making six saves in the shutout.
In addition to its first win in Ivy League play since 2023, this victory marked the first time Dartmouth has defeated Penn since 2014.
However, the Big Green could not follow it up, falling 2-0 at home to Vermont on Sunday. McKinley had seven saves in the loss.
Dartmouth, which is 2-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play, hosts UC Davis on Friday at 3 p.m. and visits Columbia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Women’s soccer extends win streak to five
The Big Green opened Ivy League play with a bang on Saturday, blanking Penn at Burnham Field, 4-0, for its fifth straight win.
Madison Rose was on fire offensively for the Big Green, scoring once and adding three assists. Maeve Theobald, who was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, scored twice, and Anna Leschly scored once.
Emmanuella Frimpomaa, Lykke Ihrfelt and Addison Ball each added assists. Ola Goebel had four saves in the win, and it was Dartmouth’s fifth straight shutout as well.
Dartmouth (7-1-2, 1-0-0) visits Columbia on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Men’s soccer picks up another ranked win
A week after beating the then-No. 18 ranked Vermont, the Big Green defeated the next No. 18 team on Saturday at Burnham Field, downing Princeton, 1-0.
Eidur Baldvinsson broke up a scoreless tie in the 84th minute on a play set up by Hudson Kohler, was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. TJ Jeffreys had five saves in the win.
Dartmouth (3-3-1, 1-0-0) visits New Hampshire on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Penn on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Women’s volleyball splits latest matchups
The Big Green picked up a convincing 3-0 sweep of New Hampshire at Leede Arena on Wednesday. Maddie Lafata and Zori Brown both came up big for Dartmouth, each with 11 kills.
Dartmouth fell just short in its next matchup when it visited Harvard on Saturday and lost 3-2. Riley Imamura set career highs in kills (18), points (23.5), digs (19) and blocks (6). Brown also set career highs in points (19.5) and blocks (3). The Big Green came back from a two-set deficit to force the decider, which the Crimson claimed, 15-9.
Next for the Big Green (6-5, 0-1) are visits to Brown on Friday at 6 p.m. and Yale on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Men’s golf has strong finish at Macdonald Cup
The Big Green finished tied with Loyola, Md. (17 over par) for fourth on Friday at Yale’s Macdonald Cup, which had just one day of play due to weather.
Benjamin Wang (2 over) was Dartmouth’s top finisher, tying for sixth.
The Big Green will compete in the Columbia Autumn Invitational in Lake Placid, N.Y., this weekend.
Women’s golf also has a strong finish at Princeton Invitational
The Big Green finished sixth (40 over par) at the Princeton Invitational, which ended after two rounds due to weather. Caroline Chung led Dartmouth by taking seventh at 2 over par.
Dartmouth competes at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Conn., this weekend.
Men’s tennis picks up some wins at Ted Farnsworth Invitational
The Big Green had a strong showing at Princeton’s Ted Farnsworth Invitational over the weekend.
On Friday, Dartmouth got singles wins from Kornel Halmos against Florida (6-1, 6-3), Adrian Treacy against Purdue (6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3) and Dillon Beckles also against Purdue (6-3, 7-6 (3)). The duos of Enrique Collar/Halmos and Calvin Wang/Beckles picked up 8-5 wins over Florida and Drexel/Purdue, respectively.
The wins kept coming on Saturday as Puthi Pantaratorn (7-6 (6), 6-3), Leo Pade (7-6 (5), 6-4) and Halmos (6-4, 6-3) picked up wins over Princeton, while Treacy (6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4) and Beckles (4-6, 7-5, 6-2) had wins over Drexel.
In doubles, Malhar Patel and Treacy beat Florida (8-7 (6)), Denny Bao/Pantaratorn (8-1), and Halmos/Collar (8-2) picked up a win over Drexel, and Beckles/Wang defeated Princeton (8-7 (4)).
Finally, on Sunday, Dartmouth had singles wins from Pantaratorn over Purdue (6-3, 6-4), Bao against Roman Sancilio (7-5, 6-4) and Beckles against Drexel (6-2, 3-6, 6-3). In doubles, Wang and Beckles beat Drexel (8-3), while Treacy and Patel defeated Buffalo (8-5).
Dartmouth will next compete at the ITA New England Regionals in Cambridge, Mass., beginning on Oct. 8.
Women’s tennis competes at Fall Foliage Fest
At the Dartmouth-hosted Fall Foliage Fest, the Big Green battled with UConn and UMass and held their own.
Against UConn, Dartmouth had singles wins from Peyton Capuano (7-5, 6-3), Josephine Lombardi (6-2, 6-2) and Kylie Liu (6-1, 6-1/7-5, 0-6, 14-12), along with a doubles win from Sam Grosjean and Alexandra Orlins (6-1).
As for contests with UMass, the Big Green got singles wins from Michela Moore (6-4, 6-3), Prisha Lingam (6-1, 6-2), Audrey Feng (6-1, 6-0), Capuano (6-2, 6-7, 10-5), Lombardi (6-3, 6-2) and Grosjean (6-2, 6-2). Dartmouth added doubles wins from Capuano and Moore (6-1), Grosjean and Orlins (6-3) and Caroline Lemcke and Liu (6-2).
The Big Green will next compete at the ITA Regionals in New Haven, Conn., beginning on Oct. 8.
Equestrian opens with a win
Dartmouth picked up a 5-4 win in its opener on Sunday over No. 2 College of Charleston at the Morton Farm Riding Center.
The Big Green, ranked No. 4, got points from Camilla Jerng, Cassidy Exner and Grace Russo in fences during the first half. Exner and Jerng, named Most Outstanding Performer, scored for Dartmouth in the second half to lock down the win.
The Big Green (1-0) visits Lynchburg (Va.) on Friday at 2 p.m.
Sailing competes over the weekend
At the Mrs. Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth over the weekend, one of the Big Green boats finished sixth and another finished 11th. Additionally, at the Hoyt Trophy hosted by Brown, Dartmouth finished second.
The Big Green next will compete at the Smith Trophy, hosted by MIT, on Saturday, as well as the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1, hosted by Dartmouth, and the Danmark Trophy, hosted by the Coast Guard, which each run on Saturday and Sunday.
Women’s rugby drops second in a row
The Big Green suffered their second straight loss on Friday, falling 31-7 to Harvard on the road. Vanessa Ortiz-Pallen scored Dartmouth’s lone try in a match that was scoreless a while before Harvard took control.
Dartmouth (1-2) hosts American International College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Zalc a semifinalist for Campbell Trophy
Last week, the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame announced semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, and Dartmouth senior kicker Owen Zalc was among the names.
To be considered for the award, which was first given out in 1990, players must be a senior or graduate student in their final eligibility year, have a GPA of 3.2 or higher and “have outstanding football ability as a first team player and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship,” per the award’s website.
Finalists will be announced Oct. 21. Past winners include Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow, among others.
