Sharon, VT – Phyllis M. Potter, 94, died on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at the Menig Nursing Home in Randolph Center, VT.
She was born February 6, 1932 in Randolph, VT the daughter of Cedric C. and Olive (Chamberlin) McDonald.
She attended school in Sharon and later to South Royalton where she graduated in 1950 from South Royalton High School.
On October 14, 1950 she married Roland E. Potter of Pomfret, VT. They purchased their home from Roland’s grandmother on Route 14 in Sharon. They lived all married life there raising their four children.
For many years Phyllis was a substitute teacher at the area schools; she worked at the Sharon Trading Post and made candy at Eaton’s Sugarhouse in Royalton. For over 50 years she was the organist for the Sharon Congregational Church and occasionally played at the Pomfret and Beaver Meadow Churches.
She enjoyed cooking and always had something cooking at her home. She loved visiting with her many friends.
She was a member of the Forest-Unity #82 O.E.S. in Sharon, Sharon Congregational Church and a founding member of the Sharon Historical Society.
She is survived by two sons, Dale Potter (Chey) and Darryl Potter (Brenda) both of Sharon; a daughter, Darlene Miller (Ben Tucker) of Tunbridge, VT; a daughter-in-law, Val Potter of Sharon; nine grandchildren and their spouses; thirteen great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Norma Vincent of Arizona and Phyllis Potter of Pomfret, VT and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Roland Potter in 2018; a son, David Potter on July 26, 2026; a brother, Douglas McDonald in 2010; a son-in-law, Keith L. Miller in 2017 and a niece Samantha Renehan Potter in 2026.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sharon Congregational Church in Sharon, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: South Royalton Rescue Squad, 53 Safford Street, South Royalton, VT 05068.
