Vt. State Rep. Tagliavia does not deserve second term
Michael Tagliavia is asking to be reelected state representative for Orange-1 District (Corinth, Washington, Vershire, Orange). His campaign website says nothing about any accomplishments during his term in the statehouse. It says that he stands for “common sense, conservative principles and a deep respect for the rural Vermont way of life” and that he will continue to “fight” for a variety of platitudes including:
• Individual freedoms, personal liberty and responsibility
• The rich heritage of rural Vermont
• Fidelity to the Vermont and United States constitutions
A review of Tagliavia’s voting record reveals he did the opposite.
Tagliavia supports ICE in our community. Tagliavia voted against a bill that prohibits ICE officers from making civil arrests in churches, schools and other public buildings. Yes, he supports warrantless arrests, a violation of the Fourth Amendment and Article 10. He also voted against a bill that would allow Vermonters to sue ICE officers for the deprivation of rights secured by the Constitution of the United States. Yes, he does not believe in a remedy for the violation of those rights.
Tagliavia supports data centers.
Tagliavia voted to ensure the defeat of a bill that would have regulated large-scale data processing centers. The bill included cost protections for customers, energy transformation payments to host communities, restrictions on fossil fuel backup generation, minimum 10-year contracts, on-site renewable generation requirements, and strong water protections. Yes, Tagliavia believes the unregulated data center industry belongs in our state.
Michael Tagliavia, who moved to Vermont in 2019, supports warrantless ICE arrests in our schools and churches and unregulated data centers in our state. His voting record makes a mockery of his professed “fight” for freedom, the Constitution and rural Vermont. Michael Tagliavia does not deserve a second term.
