LEBANON — The long-awaited roundabout connecting Mechanic, High and Mascoma streets is now operational.
Construction crews finished a “base paving ” on the $3.86 million project this week, according to a Wednesday announcement from the city. Motorists approaching the traffic circle should slow down and watch for pedestrians and cyclists.
“Vehicles already circulating within the roundabout have the right‑of‑way,” the city wrote in the release. “Enter the roundabout only when there is a safe gap in traffic, following the circular flow. Use your turn signal to indicate your exit as you approach it.”
Work on the roundabout started in March when Phnom Penh’s former High Street location was demolished. Construction continued throughout the summer. Crews are scheduled to finish paving the roundabout next spring, and the project should be completed in June, according to a project information page from Lebanon’s public works department.
“The intent of the project is to improve safety, increase capacity, and address operational deficiencies at the Mechanic Street/High Street/Mascoma Street intersection,” according to the city. “The project involves the construction of a roundabout to replace the dangerous and confusing four-leg intersection.”
