Vote wisely this November
I was very interested in the Sept. 16 letter from John Freitag (“The vital role of Independents”). Indeed, in some elections, it is the voters who identify as “Independent” who decide who wins.
However, it seems that Mr. Freitag creates a binary choice: either vote Independent or “vote a straight party ticket.” That is a false choice. I think there are always Democrats and Republicans who split their ticket and go outside the party to vote for someone whose values and proposals they support. So, in my opinion, it is not just “Independents” who vote wisely.
There are many “kitchen-table issues” to consider in the coming elections: high gas prices, high grocery prices and inflated costs of almost everything. But over and above all those issues is the fact that our American democracy is under serious attack from many of our elected national leaders.
I hope all voters, no matter their political affiliation, will do the work that is essential to saving our democracy and I eagerly look forward to pro-democracy candidates at all levels of government winning elections in November.
