Appalachian Trail magic is strong in Hanover
I recently completed a 170-mile hike through the Vermont portion of the Appalachian Trail, ending in Hanover. AT hikers depend on help and support from volunteers all along the trail, from Georgia to Maine.
Of all the volunteers I’ve encountered on my 1,570-mile trek so far, none has been more hospitable than the good people of Hanover. Volunteers William and Judy, of Hanover, are exceptional “trail angels” that made my transition back home to St Louis, Mo., smooth and uncomplicated. Thanks to the volunteers of Hanover, many hikers can get a night of rest, a ride, a meal, or a resupply without adding unnecessary stress on their pilgrimage.
Please consider helping a hiker when you see them; even a wave hello can be most encouraging. In the seasons to come I look forward to continuing my hike northbound and returning to Hanover.
