The vital role of Independents

It is now clear what the upcoming midterm elections are about and what needs to be done by those of us who consider ourselves to be Independents and not part of either political party.

President Donald Trump has made it clear that these elections are all his desire for absolute power. Trump has also made it clear that he will do anything or say anything that will enable him to continue to have a compliant Congress and to be able to continue to appoint judges willing to bend the law to his will.

There must be a stinging rebuke to Trump on the national level by electing Democrats and Independents to the House of Representatives and the Senate in order to restore the checks and balances intended by our nation’s founders. Otherwise, these last two chaotic years will pale in comparison to the next two.

As an Independent, this means not voting a straight party ticket. Independents split ballots based on the individual candidates and their abilities. In the end, too many people end up simply voting for the party they like best. It is up to us, as Independents, to make the difference in the most critical election of U.S. House and Senate candidates in our country’s history.
