Why I’m going to vote
I’m far from being the person I should be — or even the person I want to be. The older I become, the more questions I seem to have, and the more the answers escape me.
Abortion. Homosexuality. Democrats. Republicans. Illegal immigration. There are difficult questions, strong opinions, and legitimate concerns on all sides. The current news is disturbing. I don’t have an answer to the trouble in the Middle East, but I find it difficult to believe that the unfolding events are the answer to resolving the problems there.
Maybe that’s the point. Maybe we aren’t required to have all the answers before we participate in the world around us.
I do know this: No matter how insignificant I may feel, or how insignificant anyone else may feel, each of us holds an important station in this world. Each of us has a voice, no matter how small. And each of us matters.
So, I’m going to vote.
I’m going to vote because I matter, and because what I have to say is important. It may not seem important if my individual vote doesn’t change the direction of an election. But that’s not really the point. We all have an equal voice in choosing the people who will represent us, and I’m going to do my part.
I may not have all the answers. I may still have more questions than I have answers. But I have a voice.
And I’m going to use it.
Then I’ll be satisfied knowing I did my part.
How about them apples?
