After defeats to Boston College and Albany (N.Y.) to start the season, the Dartmouth College men’s soccer team secured its first win of the new campaign on Monday with a 2-0 blanking of Stonehill at Burnham Field.
Trenton Blake and Noah Sams each notched goals for Dartmouth in the contest, which also served as the first career victory for head coach Connor Klekota. TJ Jeffreys had three saves in the contest.
The Big Green (1-2-0) will look to keep the winning going on Friday when they visit Merrimack for a 7 p.m. matchup.
Women’s soccer goes unbeaten in Arizona
Last week, the Big Green headed out to Tucson, Ariz., to compete in the Cactus Classic and had a strong showing with a win and a draw.
Last Thursday, Dartmouth drew 1-1 with Arizona State. Madison Rose had the Big Green’s lone goal in the contest, while netminder Ola Goebel had four saves. The Sun Devils got their half of the honors with a goal in the final second of the match.
Dartmouth followed up its tie with a 1-0 victory over host Arizona on Sunday. Michal Cagungun scored the goal to provide the winning margin during a contest in which the Big Green made the most of its one shot attempt. Goebel had five saves on the afternoon.
Dartmouth’s goalkeeper was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for her recent performances.
The Big Green (3-1-2) host Holy Cross on Thursday at 5 p.m. and will visit Colgate on Sunday for a contest at noon.
Women’s rugby wins season opener
The Big Green started their season with a bang this past Saturday, thumping Army 41-8 at Brophy Field.
Lauren Cheng and Marley Larkin led the way for Dartmouth, scoring two tries each. Katija Crawford, Jordynn LeBeau and Vasiti Turagavou also lit up the scoreboard for Dartmouth, each notching tries of their own.
After scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes, Dartmouth kept the Black Knights at arm’s length, 12-3 at the half, before using four tries in a 13-minute span of the second half to take control.
Dartmouth (1-0) hosts Georgia’s Life University on Saturday at noon.
Women’s volleyball gets off to a strong start
The Big Green started the season by winning two of three matches at the Buffalo/Canisius Invitational in Amherst, N.Y.
Dartmouth started with a 3-1 victory over Canisius last Friday. Zori Brown led the way with 14 kills for the visitors.
The Big Green were tripped up by Buffalo on Saturday, falling 3-1, but recovered on Sunday to pick up another 3-1 win over Canisius. Riley Imamura had 16 kills in the second win over the Golden Griffins.
Dartmouth (2-1) next competes in the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament in Hamilton, N.Y., which will feature matchups with Albany (N.Y.) on Friday at 4 p.m., Northeastern on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Colgate on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Cross country makes some noise in Massachusetts
Down at the Friar Invitational in Attleboro, Mass., the Big Green men finished third in their 6K race and the women were eighth in their 4K. Connor Foley was the top male runner for Dartmouth (18:37.1), while Emmy Thornton (14:58.7) led the Dartmouth women.
Dartmouth hosts the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational on Sept. 19.
Field hockey opens season with a loss
Dartmouth traveled to Boston for its season opener against Boston University on Sunday and fell 5-1. Amelie Luessmann had the Big Green’s only goal, while Kylie McKinley and Julie Seth each had five saves in goal.
Up next for Dartmouth (0-1-0) is its home opener against Merrimack on Friday at 3 p.m.
Women’s hockey welcomes new assistant
Katie Kotlowski will join the Big Green women’s hockey program as an assistant for the upcoming season.
Kotlowski, who played collegiate hockey at Wisconsin, most recently served as an assistant at Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wis., focusing on defense.
“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to grow within the Dartmouth program alongside a competitive staff that prioritizes excellence and fosters an outstanding team culture,” Kotlowski said in a news release.
Kotlowski will join the staff for a program that finished 5-23-3 last season and has not recorded double-digit wins since the 2014-15 season.
