POMFRET – A school bus crashed on Howe Hill Road Thursday evening, sending the driver to a hospital. No students were on board at the time.
The bus involved was the Killington 2, which transports students from Bridgewater, Killington and Pittsfield to and from Killington Elementary School.
“The driver of the Killington 2 bus was involved in an accident on her way home,” Mountain Views School District Superintendent Sherry Sousa said in a statement.
No students were on the bus at the time, and no other vehicles were involved, Sousa added.
At around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, Pomfret Fire and Pomfret Fast Squad were dispatched to the scene of the incident on Howe Hill Road, according to a Facebook post from the Pomfret-Teago Volunteer Fire Department. Woodstock Ambulance also assisted in the response.
About an hour later, “units cleared the scene,” the fire department said.
“The driver was taken to the hospital but she has been released and is recovering,” Sousa said Friday morning.
The Killington 2 bus was scheduled to run the following day, she added.
Police did not respond to a request for comment.
