I value the Valley News
My day is not complete until I’ve devoured the Valley News — I’ve depended on it for 35 years for the inside story, told from an Upper Valley perspective, about things I need to know and things I didn’t know I needed to know about our bi-state community.
I value the thoughtful writing and careful coverage of columnists like Liz Sauchelli and Alex Hanson. James Patterson’s and Jennifer Hauck’s evocative photography is valuable not only for the views they provide of their subjects, but for the obvious compassion and local knowledge these Upper Valley professionals bring to their work. And of course there are more who give our paper its Valley flavor — Dan Mackie, Henry Homeyer, Will Lange, Micki Colbeck, and others.
Yet I have the creeping feeling that our long-time, reliable source of local news seems to be ebbing in strength, especially in the last six months. I worry about the loss of talented, experienced and reliable editors, reporters and photographers. I’m grateful for those who remain and hope this tide can be reversed. We need the Valley News now more than ever.
