JAFFREY — A Black Hawk helicopter from the N.H. Army National Guard was deployed to Mount Monadnock Friday to rescue a hiker in distress, N.H. Fish and Game said.
First responders were called to Mount Monadnock near the upper junction of white dot and white cross trails around 1:20 p.m., the agency said in a Friday evening news release. The hiker, Thomas LaValley, 49, of Carlisle, Pa., had what officials believed was a life-threatening medical emergency, Fish and Game said.
A nearby park ranger helped stabilize LaValley quickly, according to the release, and conservation officers requested the National Guard’s assistance. The Black Hawk Helicopter landed in the area at around 4:30 p.m. and LaValley was taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester to be evaluated for his medical emergency, according to the release.
Department of Natural and Cultural Resources park staff, volunteers from the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team and N.H. Fish and Game assisted on the scene.
