Senior Georgia Kondi capped her record breaking career at Mascoma Valley Regional High School by winning the shot put in a close contest at the New England Track and Field Championships in North Berwick, Maine on Saturday.
Other Upper Valley athletes included Thetford Academy junior Sebastian Perdrizet, who was first in the triple jump, Nina Kyei-Aboagye of Sharon Academy won the the 100 meters, Newport junior Ayden Hodge took second in the javelin and Mascomaโs Barnaby Diehn was fifth in the discus.
Kondi needed her sixth and final throw of 41 feet 8 inches to defeat Elizabeth Campbell of Ridgefield, Conn., by eight inches.
Mascoma coach Rick Currier said it looked bleak for Kondi during the preliminary round as she sat in 11thย place, two spots shy of making the finals before her last throw moved her up to fourth place.
โGoing into her final throw of finals she was sitting in fifth, when she landed the throw that won it (albeit she had to wait out three remaining girls and their finals throws),โ Currier said. โShe came up David Ortiz level clutch twice yesterday to win that thing. It was amazing.โ
Kondi, who will continue with track and field at the University of Connecticut, also placed eighth in the discus. Her shot put win was a first for Mascoma.
A year after Thetfordโs Uly Junker won the 200 meters and long jump at the New England Championships Perdrizet won the triple jump with a leap of 47 feet nine inches, two inches farther than his win and new state record at the VPA Division III state meet last week. He was 12th in the long jump.
Kondi, a talented singer who often sings the National Anthem at Mascoma athletic events, holds Mascoma records in shot put and discus and the New Hampshire Division III outdoor state record in shot put. She is a three-time Division III outdoor champion in the shot put and discus, a three-time NHIAA Meet of Champions in the shot put and two time MOC champion in the discus. She has also won the Division II indoor shot put in 2024 and 2026.
Diehn is headed to Penn State for track and field. He holds Mascomaโs records for shot put and discus and the state Division III record in the discus. He is a two-time Division III outdoor state meet champion in both the shot put and discus and won the Meet of Champions in both events on June 6.
In 2025, Diehn won the Division II shot put at the Indoor Track & Field state meet.
โThey’ve done so much for our program and are equally upstanding young adults,โ Currier said. โIt’s been a true honor to have been a part of their journey and I can’t wait to see where their path continues to take them.โ
