Best community event
Thank you to all who organized and participated in the Hanover Center Muster Day on May 25; the Lyme Community Band, Boy Scout Troop 45, local officials, descendants of our first settlers, and most importantly, the whole gathering of hundreds of people from surrounding communities.
What was most uplifting for me was everyone singing our national anthem. I am no fan of the Star Spangled Banner, not in the least because it is so hard to sing and that may be why at almost every event in this nation a soloist sings while everyone else is silent. That is not a national anthem. We need a new national anthem, one where every voice can be lifted up, one everyone can sing. But on this Memorial Day Celebration everyone sang together and it was glorious. A reminder of what is possible when we join together for the good of all.
