Support Windsor County deputy sheriffs and staff
Since the Windsor County Sheriff was arraigned on criminal charges in January 2026, the deputy sheriffs and support staff have been experiencing a lot of negativity from Windsor County residents. I am asking that people remember that the deputies and support staff have nothing to do with any of the criminal charges/behaviour that the current sheriff is dealing with. Any negativity should not be focused towards the deputy sheriffs or support staff.
Windsor County residents should be supportive of the deputies and support staff during this difficult time. Again, they have nothing to do with everything that has transpired.
Claude Weyant, chief deputy sheriff, Andy Leonard and the support staff are working extremely hard to keep the department running smoothly. Not only is the department dealing with the negativity from the sheriff’s charges, they find themselves with a difficult financial situation; which they did not create. They are making extremely good headway in getting the department on more solid ground. It will take a lot of hard work and time but they are determined to do all they can to achieve just that, a financially stable department and trust again from the community.
The department has lost at least 4 deputies who just didn’t want to deal with the negativity they have been experiencing from the community members since the sheriff’s arraignment in January 2026. One town has already informed the department they will not re-new the current contract with the sheriff’s department due to the current situation.
Again, please remember the employees of the sheriff’s department had nothing to do with the situation they have found themselves experiencing. I again ask that all Windsor County residents be supportive of the department’s employees.
