WOODSTOCK โ€” The Woodstock High girls lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four games on Thursday by crushing Colchester High 17-3 at home in a rainy VPA Division II matchup.ย

The Wasps were led offensively by senior Aleks Cirovic and sophomore Betta Cirovic, who each notched five goals. Senior Maeve Roylance also came up big for her squad, scoring three times and adding two assists.ย

Woodstock Head Coach Amanda Hull, who is in her 11th season leading the Wasps, was pleased with her squadโ€™s performance, especially facing an opponent they had not played during her tenure.

โ€œWe didnโ€™t have any big idea of what they were like, but our goal was to come play our game, and they did it,โ€ Hull said. โ€œThey played a strong game today.โ€

The win moves Woodstock to 4-1 on the year, with its lone loss coming to last seasonโ€™s Division I runner-up Burr & Burton, 14-8, on April 13 in its season opener.

After a period where the lineup was in flux due to spring break and players on a school trip, the Waspsโ€™ squad got back to full strength this week.ย

โ€œNow that weโ€™re all back together and โ€” like today, playing together โ€” you can see that they enjoy being and playing with each other,โ€ Hull said.ย

Thursdayโ€™s contest was pretty much all Woodstock for 48 minutes.

Betta Cirovic opened the scoring for the Wasps with 8:51 remaining in the first quarter. She followed that up with two more goals to give Woodstock a 3-0 lead.ย

Then it was Aleks Cirovicโ€™s turn. She scored twice to put the Wasps up 5-0. Roylance added a goal with 1:36 left, and a minute later, Aleks Cirovic found the back of the net again.ย

Trailing 7-0 to begin the second quarter, the Lakers did put up some resistance. Junior Anya Davis got her squad on the board about three minutes into the frame.

About 30 seconds later, Colchester had a chance to build momentum when Woodstock had to play a player down after a penalty.ย But the Waspsโ€™ defense and senior netminder Jessica Baumann denied the Lakers.ย Woodstock proceeded to score five straight goals before the end of the second quarter, including two from Roylance, to take a 12-1 lead into halftime.ย

Things did not get much better for the Lakers in the second half.

In the third quarter, Woodstockโ€™s goals came from Johnson and freshman Zoey Filiault.ย The Wasps scored three more times in the contestโ€™s final frame.ย

Hull is hopeful that the best is yet to come.ย

โ€œI think that weโ€™ve got … a busy month of May ahead of us, and I just think weโ€™re hopefully going to go up from here,โ€ she said.ย

Woodstock travels to Brattleboro (0-3) on Tuesday for a matchup at 6:30 p.m.
