Kiss the ring or else
Just shy of invoking the Alien and Sedition Acts, Trump’s rhetoric and attacks on Free Speech, the Press, and immigration are at a feverishly high pitch.
Following the White House Correspondents Dinner, Trump’s news conference read more like a sermon on the mount and a come to Jesus moment: “In light of this evening’s event, I ask that all Americans recommit with their hearts to resolving our differences peacefully. A tremendous amount of love and coming together. Really about free speech in our Constitution… showing the violence of this thug that attacked our Constitution…”
PTSD comes in all forms, and for a brief moment the compassionate speech spewing from his mouth almost seemed real. Sure, about as real as the color of his orange fake baked skin tone.
But, Trump is like the weather, wait a few minutes, it’ll change.
And so it did. Within hours of the skirmish at the WH Correspondents Dinner, in the interview with CBS 60 Minutes Correspondent Norah O’Donnell, the old Trump resurfaced. As any credible member of the press corps would do, O’Donnell brought up the ‘Friendly Federal Assassin’s’ manifesto. Trump’s response — ‘you’re horrible people… you’re a disgrace…’
So much for the love and coming together Jesus moment.
The naughty press corps won’t kiss the ring.
Some might think that Trump has mastered Brandolini’sLaw, but is it possible that he can even keep up with all the crap swirling around that cavity between his ears? It seems that only for a moment he forgot about the vulgar tongue lashes directed at members of the press corps, the executive order he signed to defund public broadcasting, the violence ICE patrols have created across the country in an attempt to suppress protesters, or the unprecedented number of lawsuits he has filed — the list goes on and on.
Someone really needs to take that phone away from him.
