What’s in a name?

Why is the current vice president of the United State referred to as “JD Vance” on the printed page in newspapers and magazines ?  There are never any periods to separate the two capital letters into “J. D.”

Does he not possess a normal given name such as “John” or “James” or “Joseph ?” Or does the “J D” represent the kind of spelling that one finds on the social media where the phrase “You are” is transcribed as “Ur ?”  In that case, his given name may be “Jaydee.” Whatever the true nature of his name, I like to think of him as “Jaydee.“

It’s a chummy sort of name. If he were henceforth designated as “Jaydee Vance,”  it might allow me to understand better who he truly may be and the quite idiosyncratic way he shapes his defense of the policies and words of Donald Trump, most recently in Hungary with Viktor Orban  and in Lebanon and Iran.
