Please skip lawn treatment this season

General pesticide use on residential and commercial lawns creates unnecessary harm. Time and again, pesticide exposure has been linked to neurodevelopmental effects in children, Parkinson’s disease, fertility issues, breast cancer, and diabetes.

Shouldn’t our children be able to play on fields and swim in water free from harmful chemicals? Lawns and playing fields should contain a mix of grasses, rye, dandelions, clovers, even wild strawberries! They should not look like outdoor, wall-to-wall carpeting.

Pesticides and other chemicals help solve many problems in agriculture and beyond. Lawn treatment to produce a monoculture of grass doesn’t meet the bar for targeted application many experts in the field recommend.

Most of our exposure to harmful chemicals in the modern world is out of our control. Here, we have a choice. Why not save some money, while promoting a more thoughtful use of these treatments?

Please, skip the lawn treatment this season! Your wallet, your neighbors, and your pets will thank you.
