Canaan, NH – Vivian Belle Hadley, age 97, of Canaan, NH, died peacefully at the Sullivan County Nursing Home with Friends by her side on Thursday, March 12th, 2026.
Vivian was born September 6, 1928, to Florence (Powell) and Henry “Chick” Terriault in Croydon, NH, later moving to Canaan, NH. She attended Canaan Schools.
After meeting the love of her life at an Enfield Center dance, she was married to Darwin Hadley for 64 years, having one son Darwin “Da”, Jr. She was predeceased by her husband, son and grandchild, Wendy Hadley (age 12), her brother Lawrence Terriault of Canaan and his wife Elizabeth “Nip”, and sisters Lena Grace and Leona Church. She leaves behind cousins, Jim and Anita Hadley of NY and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
While being wonderful neighbors in Canaan, Vivian enjoyed tending two gardens, her birds and her lovely flowers-displayed for all to enjoy. She also loved baking and shopping. She was a member of the Canaan Methodist Church Ladies Auxiliary, taking part in many of their events.
Vivian had a long career of working and a great work ethic. She spent twenty years at the Enfield, NH Woolen Mill, ten years in Dietary at Thayer Hall at Dartmouth College and retired from Dietary at Alice Peck Day Hospital after ten years of employment there.
Vivian Leaves behind her granddaughter, Alyssa Hunt (Chico) and three great grandchildren of Florida, a niece Brenda Grace (Phil) of Canaan, NH and many close friends including Gloria Koch, Patty Smith, Garnet Bannick, Gail Smith, Alice Denike, Chris Dow, Dale and Bobbi Barney and family and her beloved cat, Dolly.
She was predeceased by friends BJ Lary, Florence Rameor and her very best friend over 50 years, Alma Smith, all from Canaan.
Vivian’s graveside service at Wells Cemetery in Canaan will be announced later this spring. Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Sullivan County Nursing Home for the wonderful care she received.
