Restrictive Voting
In the early days of our Republic, the right to vote was limited in many states to white male landowners. The ‘Save America Act’ sponsored by the Republican Party hopes to steer us back in that direction by first discouraging voters they suspect of voting overwhelmingly for the Democratic Party from participating in our democracy. Absent any evidence of voter fraud, their intent is manifestly evident.
Over the past two hundred and fifty years we have over time extended voting rights to women, people of color, and those individuals who are not in a position to own property. We can just as easily take it away over the next several decades. The ‘Save America Act’ is a first step. Is that the direction in which we wish to move our nation?
