EAST RANDOLPH โ One person was injured in a Monday morning fire on Route 14 that destroyed a single-family home and caused a road closure for approximately seven hours.
Upon the East Randolph Fire Department’s arrival at about 6 a.m. Monday, five residents were outside and the house was in flames, Fire Chief Riley Brown said.

The injured person was conscious and alert, but a neighbor transported them to the hospital, Brown said. Brown didn’t know their condition. He was unsure whether there were pets in the household.
As a result of the fire, the home is uninhabitable, Brown said. The Red Cross helped the family coordinate temporary housing and necessities.
The home that burned is located at 219 Route 14, Washington, Vt., Fire Chief Ryan Bresette said. His department was one of several to provide mutual aid on Monday. Town records list the owners of the property, valued at $95,000, as Robert and Ann Olmstead.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Brown.
As a result of the structure fire, Route 14 was closed from Chelsea Mountain Road up to Route 66.
“It was easier to shut down that section for our operations on the ground and keep the public detouring around the scene,” Brown said Monday by phone.
Route 14 had reopened as of about 1 p.m. Monday, after the last of the fire trucks left the scene.
“There’s no smoke, a little bit of steam from the water, but that’s it,” said Brown.
In addition to the East Randolph and Washington fire departments, firefighters from Randolph Center, Randolph Village, Brookfield, Vt.; Chelsea, Tunbridge, Sharon, Barre Town, Vt.; and Williamstown, Vt., also provided support.
